They’re Not Killed Yet

On August 24th 2006, a London-based weekly news magazine The Economics wrote a provocative-titled article “Who Killed The Newspaper?”. By the rise of Internet, many people by then believed that the end of “traditional” media is approaching. But is it, really?

In India, according to a report by the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) recently, the sales are increasing by 12.93%. It seems to me like the sign of death, if any, is still far away.

Timothy Balding, CEO of Paris-based WAN said that those results are even better than they expected.

“Newspapers are alive and well and exhibiting enormous innovation and energy to maintain their place as the news media of preference for hundreds of millions of people daily.”

It’s kind of confusing. Are the newspaper being killed or not? What do you think?

Please click here to read the story from The Indian Times, and here to go to the Association’s website.
