Public figures in Indonesia had blogged since about two or three years ago. I ever marked Hermawan Kartajaya’s initiative for blogging on October 2005. I am sure he was not the first public figures spending efforts to blog, but his influence on marketing is “one VIP ticket” to blogosphere.
I wrote a significant question on my welcoming message to Hermawan (in Bahasa Indonesia): can we — bloggers, mostly amateurs — compete with famous and well-known public figures? In a spirit on motivation, this is not only rhetorical question, but dealing with various common senses, such as credibility, source of experience, readers’ viewpoint, and also influence.
The famous has a personal guarantee ticket, while an ordinary blogger spending resources on blogging to create a new ticket.
The questions addressed to public figures blogging — especially to some of our ministries — are still out of box nowadays. Two major issues: first, almost all of people are agree that government business in Indonesia is super-duper extremely busy. There are so many things to do or to fix — and blogging is wasting time for them. Period.
Second, some of blogs provided by ministries are yet another kind of advertising medium about that person and not yet cool enough to be accepted as blog. Blogging is one kind of communications, two ways of talking constructed by authors’ and readers’ minds.
The understandings of blogosphere and the way it works are essentials to all newcomers bloggers — even he/she had been a public figures. Regarding this requirements, I believe a diligent bloggers gain more attractive incentive for all his/her efforts.
In short: let “the famous” and “the ordinary” compete fairly on top of his/her hard works.
