Freedom and Erotic Stuff
Oiwan Lam is the lattest case dealing with an act of electronic civil disobedience in response to Obscene Articles Tribunal of the Hong Kong Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority (TELA). Exposing first on Boing Boing July 10 entry, this case could be ended with a maximum penalty of HK$ 400,000 and 12 months in jail.
While there are some troubles concerning with materials seen as erotic by Hong Kong authorities, many countries (especially in Asia) have various situations facing erotic to porn contents. Beside cultural issues, many people — moreover in Asia — still keep in mind that this kind of materials are against their belief, such as religious backgrounds.
It will become a problem when “freedom of expressions” and “open mind” are mixed with those kind of obscene materials while the freedom fighters usually use erotic materials to make a litmus test. They who are agree to openness and people’s voice will make a stand and careful enough soon they realize that this freedom goes wild into things they do not agree with.
