Wired Politics section had interesting issue yesterday: exposing movements in Myanmar as a combination of current social networking’s power and blogging. They call it as “open source politics”, referring mostly to Facebook’s Burma network activism, The Support the Monks’ Protest. While Myanmar’s authority cut off Internet and many communication infrastructures, Facebook’s international membership gathered worldwide supporters.
This is a second step Facebook exposed widely after national case, mass murdered in Virginia Technology, U.S., months ago. Used by activists — grass-root political efforts — to help spreading what happens inside Myanmar, Facebook is now reaching global attention as common media for ordinary people to help each others. Even for serious issue like political movements.
Other blogger mentioned that Facebook has became a mini-web inside World Wide Web. Its about 30 million members and growing will be effective for nearly anything achieved with Facebook.
How about blogging?
This activity is not well-organized or arranged in one central site like most of social networking, however bloggers like to have “virtual networking” connecting their support for many political movements. Better than mailing list which also helped much during late 1990s — for example during Indonesia’s Reformation after New Order — blogging exposes themselves near to well-known mainstream media and is relatively easier to navigate by readers.
Yeah, these all can be Politics 2.0.
