City-based Bloggers Club

Back to 2003 when I started blogging, I found various bloggers’ club based on location in Indonesia — specifically city-oriented. Bandung, Jakarta, and Yogyakarta are some of them. Usually every member has his/her own blog, set club’s blog and a feed from its members displayed, and a commitee was elected to maintain club’s blog. Furthermore, a regular meeting or gathering was scheduled to let members meet one to others vis-a-vis. The solidarity and also pre-requested to join was merely based on one’s hometown.

The second period — about one to two years after — was filled by “bloggers having specific interests.” Various experts wrote any topics they are capable or have basic knowledge. More often readers were easily distinguish among blog’s themes, let’s say: current technology, motivational essay, or gadget etalage. Under the umbrella of bloggers’ preference, several aggregators were set up to collect “similiar theme” or “ideologically accepted.”

Nowadays, five years after first period of city bloggers club, I noticed new and fresh this type of club declared again. Two things I see different: first, most of bloggers are really new, hence they did not know their “predecessors” — it means: new members (and sometimes using new group name/attribute) in the same city. Second, city blogger are widespreaded widely, from Padang in the west, to Kendari in the east. I bet there will be a newer club again farther east.

Does history repeat or more breakthrough?
