The Minister Is Blogging - So What?

ikram — June 21, 2007 / 4:21 am

I don’t understand it why everytime a minister (of Indonesia) decided to set up his personal blog, we have to celebrate. We spread the happy news, visit the blog and leave a comment or two — like it’s something really fancy or will affect on our lives directly. I think it’s too much.

In Indonesia, the ministers still have a lot thing to do beyond blogging. And I mean a hell lot. So they’d better accomplish the works instead of starting the showcase-kind-of-type blog. Yes, showcase.

Anyway, let’s just talk about the blogging ministers.

Farm Minister Anton Apriyantono started his blog on May, 21st, 2007. The first entry, titled “Selamat Datang” (Welcome!) was written by the webmaster. Up until now, none of the three entries are written by Anton himself. How about the contents? They talk about what Anton has been doing.

The blog is all about Anton being Farm Minister. Perhaps that’s why they put the Farm Department’s logo on the blog’s header.

Anton is the third minister who went blogging. Before him, there was People’s Housing Minister Yusuf Asy’ari. He blogs here. A bit different from Anton, Yusuf Asy’ari has written some entries by himself. And he didn’t put his Ministry’s logo on his blog’s header either.

The first one is Defence Minister Juwono Sudarsono. He blogs here. And as a pioneer, I think he’s good. He writes all the entries himself, providing room to discuss, that therefore makes a vibrant blog. No logo whatsoever of the Defence Department. Not only telling about what he’s been doing, but also shares his ideas.

It’s too bad that Anton and Yusuf didn’t make as good blog as Juwono’s. But maybe I’ll just have to wait until the time the ministers went on blogging — real blogging. Not just another showcase to sell theirselves.

Because they have more important jobs to do.

As always, I’ll be glad to hear what you guys have on mind.
