Blogger vs. journalist
SOUNDS cliche? maybe. But Roy Peter Clark from Poynter back to discussing this issue. Let me quote the interview carried by Italian journalist, Francesca Pacini, who managed an online media and culture magazine Silmarillon.
Q: Let’s talk of blog writing. Is the blogger a journalist even if he doesn’t have a “pedigree”? A: Most bloggers are not journalists. Most do not claim to be. Some bloggers who are journalists disdain journalists — they don’t want to be associated with the mainstream media. Blogging — like journalism — is a term that contains many different forms of expression. The key, as I said earlier, is whether the blogger finds things out and checks thing out. Without that, there is no journalism.
I think it is clear enough that without verification, any claim on journalism is dismissed. And in my opinion, a blogger doesn’t need to claim to be journalist. Just write a great piece, and many people will read it respectfully. Keep on blogging!
