How internet changes US election?

Media gives impact to voters? What’s the difference between the battle of Kennedy vs Nixon in 1960 and today’s presidential politics?

Will the election of 2008 unfold as did the election of 1960, when a new medium, television, was first used by a candidate to harness just enough votes to win the White House. If history is any guide, then the answer is yes. Now that the Internet (and the rambling yet increasingly organized and coherent blogosphere) has deeply penetrated daily life for so many, it seems that 2008 can be what 1960 was for television. So will this happen? It depends on the candidates.

The end of radio

IN the middle of riding back home from the office, my friend and I ended up talking about radio. In the old times, at least while I was in junior high, radio is all about music and community. I, once, have this habit: waiting for hours to listen to a rock program from a certain radio. Ya, rock program.

I’m not gettin’ into radio in recent years. But, to my knowledge, music is now just become an ornament. Radios nowadays are full of talking news, or a couple of idiots laughter. And music is only interlude, gap filling. Once again, to my knowledge.

Actually, I can understand this fenomena. Listening music is so easy nowadays. MP3 rules. You can easily buy an affordable MP3 player and get the songs for free. That is why, maybe, radios need to be broadened their services. Breaking news, musical or nonmusical talkshow, quiz, practical jokes, etc.

Bucks for interactive digital media

Three universities receive funding for 14 digital media projects from the Media Development Authority’s National Research Fund.

hey are just three of the 14 interactive digital media (IDM) research projects by the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Nanyang Polytechnic, which have received a total of $22 million in funding from the National Research Fund (NRF). The sum is part of the $500 million the NRF has set aside to aid research in IDM.

That’s hell a lot of money! Singapore is rock in this issue.

Happy new year

We wish you all Happy New Year. May the future becoming better for us all.

I admit it, that this blog is quite abandoned. New media is a booming issue and I cannot keep the pace with it. Hope next year will be better.

Cheers!

John Moore dan Benazir Bhutto

Lewat, lewat, lewat. Ya. Koran atau majalah mana pun lewat jika dibandingkan dengan pemberitaan online pembunuhan pemimpin oposisi Pakistan (dan mantan perdana menteri) Benazir Bhutto beberapa hari lalu.

Ya, ya, ya. Beberapa koran memasang infografis seputar kronologi kejadian. Tapi semuanya dull.

Coba lihat bagaimana The New York Times mengemas berita heboh ini: sajian multimedia berupa slideshow foto-foto milik John Moore yang menggambar secara dramatis saat-saat terakhir Bhutto, dilengkapi suara pula.

New media, rule!

Kindle

SORRY if a bit late. Has anyone tryin’ Amazon’s Kindle? It’s a new generation reading device, a hardware e-book, if I may call it. And a few days after its launch, Amazon claim that this device has SOLD OUT!

The absurdity of social networking?

I don’t quite get the idea of placing thousands of features on some social networking websites like Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, Linkedin, etc. I personally don’t know whether we really need that stuffs or not.
